2010 2010

As the alarm went off at 6 am two very negative and fragile girls opened their eyes and reluctantly got out of bed. Half past 6 we were in Syntagma Square with our backpacks waiting to catch the bus to the airport. Half past 7 sharp we got off at the airport to check-in for our flight to Santorini and just before 9 we were on our 40 seater (operated only by 2 huge propellers) plane.

Fifty minutes later we arrived on the beautiful island of Santorini. We were met by a rather good looking fella who took us to Hotel Sofia in Firastefani. Our hotel is tiny but beautiful, with a swimming pool and cute white steps leading up to the rooms. We are three adjoining rooms that share a patio with a view over looking the cobble stone pathway and a gorgeous Church.

As we arrived at the Hotel we immediately went across the road for some babelas brunch which consisted of 3 eggs, bacon and toast. The view from the restaurant was breath taking. It’s right at the top of one of Fira’s cliffs and a perfect spot to sit and chill till the end of time. Off course after brunch we settled for a shower and a nap and then made the mission down hill to see the little town of Fira. Everything is really blue and white as seen on movies and post cards. It constantly feels like you are on a movie set. It’s too much for us to process and we have to keep reminding ourselves where we are.

We discovered quite a few nice shops and taverns. We found a really nice restaurant on the one street where you sit in a huge garden but at the same time you are apart of the all the happenings in the street. Gizella and I are big fans of Greek cuisine and decided to try something new, something other than tzatziki and greek salad. We tried souvlaki (pork/onion/pepper skewer type thing) and fava. Fava is almost like hummus just not as dry. It’s made of yellow peas, onions, lemons, olive oil, parsley, salt and capers. It had the texture of mashed potatoes. We shared that with bread and a green salad. Once again, DELISH! I think I have died and gone to Heaven!

After dinner we went looking for a grocery store to stock our fridge back home. We bought some goodies and went for a beer at Mc Daniels. The bar tender looked like Super Mario.

It was a good day exploring the area we are staying in and enjoying the Greek culture.
