Athens day 2

After a nice sleep in, we started missioning around in the most beautiful little side streets and found a nice Greek street cafe for brunch. For brunch we had greek salad with 'cocktail' dressing and cheese fries.

JUM! It was such a nice day we decided to walk to the Acropolis, which turned out to be really close. We visited the Temple of Dionysis and made our way up to the Parthenon. What an amazing site. It's amazing to think that way back when all of it was in working and alive and well. From the Parthenon you have to most magnificent view from the city and for the first time we realized how big the city really is. It's such a beautiful old city, but the modern buildings stand out like an eye sore.

We decided to buy some post cards and post them home from the Acropolis. So feel honoured if we sent you one :)

After the post office we went down to the national Acropolis Museum which was really interesting, but big. Shopping time. We found a little street with millions of shops and looked around. Most of the shops sell the same kind of stuff but it's still really interesting to see. The Greek people are extremely friendly and one would think they are pushy if you are not interested but they are not.

For a late afternoon snack we stopped at another taverna for some beers and saganaki. Saganaki is a traditional greek dish - skelet friend cheese. DELISH! With a satisfied appetite we strolled around and came across the real shopping street of Athens where we found H&M, an old favorite, as well as Gap, United Colours of Benetton and lots of other cool shops that you can't find in SA. On the way back to our hostel we bumped into George (our friend from the previous night). It was so weird to bump into someone on the street in Greece that sort of knows you.. Was cool though. He was on duty so Gizella and I went to a little cafe on Syntagma Square for drinks.

We went home and got dressed and met up with the guys in front of the Hard Rock Cafe. It was really quiet so the guys decided to take us to a really nice local area by the port. We had drinks at a cafe and then bought beer at a cafe and Adriano took us to a nice spot at the beach. We drank our beers and listened to music. We even taught the Greeks to 'lang arm' - or at least we tried. Wasn't very successful. Nevertheless, it was a great night!
