Go Red Devils!!!!

Tuesday night was a sad night when Bafana made history and were the first host team to fall out in the first round in soccer world cup history.

I am so proud of our boys that they went out with a bang and so nearly made the cut! It was such a sick game!

Luckily I still have a team in the running for the gold. South Korea.

Let's hope for the best! Have a great weekend :)

South Korea vs Argentina

Not a good soccer day for me. Both my teams got slaughtered.

Before Argentina annihilated Korea we bought some chicken, gimbap and beer and made our way down to Haeudae beach. At the beach we were greeted by probably 5000 korean fans, all dressed in red, geared with their red devil horns and flags - hungry for a good game. (pff)

We were seated about 400m from the screen and struggled to see or even concentrate on the game. The atmosphere was amazing and difficult to describe. There was a cheerleader on the stage egging on the red sea of fans.

Half time after finishing most of the beers and desperately needing the bathroom we left the beach. And a good thing too, it was already hard finding a taxi to take us back to Kyuangsang. We watched the rest of the game at Eva's and was actually relieved to be off the beach with that embarressing final score.

Next time Red Devils. Watch out Nigeria!

South Africa vs Uruguay

Time difference can make life so difficult, yet exciting. South Korea is 7 hours ahead of South Africa, so that means basically all the soccer games are in the middle of the night on this side of the world.

On Wednesday I gathered a few Saffa's for a crazy mission. We planned on waking up at 3am the next morning to watch the Bafana game at 3:30 at Eva's. I e-mailed the bar to make sure they'll be showing the game and to warn them that we were going to show up in our pj's. Marie and I went to bed just after 9 to get enought sleep for the early start the next morning.

Candice, Salome, Marie, Paul and myself were the only ones that eventually made it to Eva's. It was great fun untill we got our asses kicked. At least we enjoyed a delicious breakfast while the sun was rising. School was tough on Thursday...

Soccer World Cup 2010

Feel it, it's here!

When I applied to come to Korea I never thought that the World Cup would have a big influence on my life. Everybody kept asking me: "What about the World Cup?" I just kept replying that I don't really like soccer.. BIG MISTAKE!

Turns out I'm quite a fan. Ok, ok I won't go that far, but I'm enjoying watching the games this side of the world. On Friday all the South Africans in Busan was buzzing all over the show and everybody wanted to go home. Marie even had a brief moment on the radio telling the Koreans what a beautiful and wonderful country we have.

Friday night all of us got together and went to our local pub Eva's for the opening ceremony and game against Mexico. We arrived very early cause we wanted good seats. As we arrived, Jo-anni was already there organising the music. I never would have thought that we would listen to Kurt Darren, Bok van Blerk, Jack Parow, etc. in Korea in a bar. WTF? It was perfect to get the mood going and to get everyone excited! South Africans practically filled the bar.

Eva's organised some awesome drink specials. When you buy your first drink you get a wristband with the team of your choice on it. If your team scores the first goal you get a free drink and if your team wins - you drink for free for 30 minutes! Cool hey?

The gees was amazing in Eva's and all the South Africans got up to join in the National Anthem with their hands on their chests. It was AWESOME!

Check out the pics and stay tuned for some more world cup madness.

Saturday night we went back to Eva's to watch the Korean game. Korea KILLED!! Imagine Korea and South Africa ends up playing against each other!

Welcome to the English Zone

Our school finally got an English Lab!!

Check out the photo's.. It's a class and a library - pretty cool!

Little Rain

Tuesday after school I visited Ellie in the hospital - she had a baby boy 2 weeks ago!! It was so cool to see my friend again and to see her new born baby! I even got to hold the little one! They haven't decided on a name yet, but she would like to name him after a famous Korean artist. His name is Rain. His Korean name is pretty cool, but I can't remember what it is :(

Monday Monday

On Monday evening my Korean parents took me out for dinner to a very famous beef place. It was so cool to see them again and we had a delicious dinner!!

World Cup Madness

For all the South African expats...

St. Georges Mall

And so June begins

85 days left in Korea! Wow!!!

Anyways this weekend was another great one!! I just love weekends, don't you? Friday after school Marie and I went to Seongjeong beach to meet up with Albert and Alexandra for an early dinner and some sundowners. It was great fun and a wonderful evening to be at the beach.

After dinner we made our way home and got dressed for a memorable night out. We joined Il, Jin and Han at Eva's to celebrate Il's birthday (we only found that out when we got there...) with a potato cake (?) and some champers. Almost immediately after the cake Il wanted to go to a Noraebang in Heaundae, so off course everyone followed the birthday girl. The Noraebang was quite an experience, because it was very fancy and filled with our Korean friends. As soon as we arrived waiters entered with food, beers and two bottles of whiskey! (So many drinks ... It was crazy!) We sang and danced to weird Korean songs, I even dragged Han and Jim with to sing the Greece hit, Summer nights with me. It was hilarious!

The Birthday Girl

After the Noraebang, Salome, Marie and I decided to go back to Eva's for 'slap chips' and then to Ghetto to go and dance until the sun came up. Ghetto is most probably the dirtiest place I've ever been, but it was fun and great to end the night off with the girls and dancing.

On Sunday Salome and I went to Haeundae Beach for the Busan Sand festival. It was really cool to see what sand artists can do. Those guys are really cool. It was a beautiful day to spend outside, so we decided to go to Gwangali beach after the sand festival for lunch at Breeze Burns. We ended up staying there for hours just watching all the people on the beach.

It was a great and relaxing weekend. Next weekend will be crazy, because of the World Cup opening and the first match. Bring on the week!!
